Texas Lands Commitment from State Champion QB Ty Knutson
The Texas Longhorns have secured a commitment from Smithson Valley's 2027 three-star quarterback, Ty Knutson. At 6-foot-3, 202 pounds, Knutson is a rising star in the state of Texas, currently ranked as the No. 54 quarterback in the nation and the No. 97 overall prospect in the state by 247Sports. He held offers from several prestigious schools, including San Diego State, Syracuse, South Carolina, FAU, Houston, North Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulane, UTEP, UTSA, and UTRGV.
Knutson's journey to Texas began with a visit to Austin, College Station, and Lubbock throughout the season. He attended the Vanderbilt and Arkansas games in November and later returned to Smithson Valley in January to witness Knutson's throwing prowess in person. Impressed, AJ Milwee, a key figure in Texas' recruitment, visited one of Knutson's games during the bye week after the Vanderbilt game. This led to Knutson's return visit to Texas for the Junior Day on January 17, where he received a scholarship offer from the Longhorns.
Knutson's reaction to the offer was one of pure elation. He expressed his desire to pursue Texas, emphasizing the university's exceptional treatment and the warmth of its community. This sentiment was further solidified by his performance on the field, leading Smithson Valley to a 15-1 record and a 5A-DI State Championship in his first season as a full-time starter.
In the State Championship game, Knutson showcased his versatility, completing 12 of 21 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 19 yards and a two-point conversion in a 28-6 victory over Frisco Lone Star. His exceptional skills were recognized at the 2025 FBU Top Gun showcase, where he was named a standout by 247Sports Director of Scouting, Andrew Ivins.
Knutson's talent extends beyond football. He has previous track and field experience and was honored as an honorable mention on the top performer list for the National Combine during the Navy All-American Bowl week in San Antonio. With his impressive athletic frame, track record of success, and a scholarship offer from Texas, Ty Knutson is a highly sought-after recruit who has solidified his commitment to the Longhorns.
