Sergio Hudson's Fall 2026 Collection: A Whisper of Opulence
Sergio Hudson's fashion shows are usually a party, but his Fall 2026 collection felt more like a boudoir. The designer's signature opulence was conveyed with a whisper rather than the usual shout, creating an intimate and sensual atmosphere. The plush white carpet, soft soundtrack, and slow-slinking models all contributed to this effect.
The inspiration for the collection came from a performance by Aretha Franklin at the 1998 Grammys. Hudson was inspired by her powerful presence and the idea of a woman who is "no less than powerful." He drew from iconic characters like Diahann Carroll's Dominique Deveraux from 'Dynasty' and Jacqueline Broyer from 'Boomerang', as well as Cruella de Vil, played by Glenn Close.
This collection marked a decade of Hudson's brand, and he wanted to showcase the influences that shaped his vision. He recalled his mother's bold fashion choices, like wearing 6-inch heels to church on Sunday mornings, which inspired his emphasis on strong-shouldered suiting and luxurious, high-shine evening gowns.
The collection features vibrant velvet and sequined pieces, reflecting Hudson's customer's shift towards more special and intricate garments. He noticed that knitwear isn't selling as well as more elaborate pieces, and he aims to offer his customers a wider range of statement-making options.
