Assaf Granit Revives Jerusalem's Culinary Heritage with Steakiya
In a delightful culinary comeback, renowned chef Assaf Granit, alongside the Machneyuda Group, is bringing back a beloved piece of Jerusalem's culinary history. Over a decade after launching the vegetarian haven Tzemach, they're now introducing Steakiya, a kosher meat pop-up in the heart of Mahane Yehuda Market.
This new venture pays homage to the city's traditional skewer houses, a once-thriving dining culture that Granit hopes to bring back to life. The group's decision reflects a desire to reconnect with the city's roots and offer something familiar yet unique.
Granit, who has restaurants across Europe and Israel, shared his vision with ynet, stating, 'There are no places like this left in Jerusalem. The market used to be full of skewer houses, and now they're all gone. We want to bring back the charcoal grills, the aroma, and the steak in pita experience.'
Steakiya promises an authentic skewer house experience, complete with real skewers grilled over charcoal, a menu printed directly on placemats, and the group's signature ambiance and music. The menu features a range of dishes, from hummus and French fries to arayes (grilled pita stuffed with minced meat) and various skewers and steaks by weight.
Dishes include hummus (NIS 32), French fries (NIS 32), arayes (NIS 42), skewers (NIS 48–78), and steaks by weight, including prime rib, tomahawk, picanha, and beef fillet (NIS 58–82 per 100 grams). Desserts will tantalize with malabi, chocolate mousse, and Bavarian cream.
This exciting development in Jerusalem's culinary scene invites food enthusiasts to embark on a journey through time, rediscovering the flavors and atmosphere of a bygone era. Will you be joining the queue at Steakiya to indulge in this culinary revival?
